Extreme spa treatments around the world - Facials aren’t just for our faces anymore. All of our body parts need equal love, including our derriere.
Susurrus Spa in Poets Cove Resort & Spa on Pender Island, British Columbia, is dedicated to buffing your behind. Their Fanny Facial will make your rear appear smoother and firmer by exfoliating and stimulating the skin to encourage cell turnover, followed by the application of a healing, nourishing and oxygenating mask, and finally a wrap—allowing the nutrients to soak in.
Stretch marks are minimized, scars are faded, and clogged pores are purified to bikini-ready perfection.
Israel
The country known as the prime source of Dead Sea salts and exotic oils has just added a new treatment to its spa menu—snake massage.
For about $70, clients at Ada Barak’s spa in northern Israel can add a wild twist to their treatment by having six nonvenomous but very lively serpents slither and hiss a path across their aching muscles and stiff joints.
Barak uses California and Florida king snakes, corn snakes and milk snakes in her treatments, which she said were inspired by her belief that once people get over any initial misgivings, they find physical contact with the creatures to be soothing.
Philippines
Definitely Pinoys won’t be left behind in “Fear Factor.” Recently, I took my son to the Manila Ocean Park behind the Quirino Grandstand in Manila and was surprised to find a treat that awaits its amazed visitors. At the end of the tour within the oceanarium, visitors may opt to avail of the latest in pedi-pampering. All you need to do is take your shoes off, dip your feet into a small pond, and have the conviction that hundreds of Garra rufa fish, a tiny carp specie, can nibble away your dead skin leaving your feet pampered. There’s definitely something fishy going on as this fish reflexology, as it is popularly known, is gaining a lot of followers from the US and Japan.
Horse spa
Today, even beloved pets have dedicated spas that cater to their “pampering” needs.
In Australia, Delaney’s Equine spa is a respite for performance horses offering salt-water therapy. This treatment dramatically cuts the healing time required for a variety of common ailments in the equine athlete.
Equine Spa therapy is the premier drug-free hydrotherapy treatment for tendinitis, ligament injuries, wounds and cuts, sore shins, laminitis, joint conditions and hoof problems which are the most common causes of lameness in horses.
HM Queen Elizabeth II, HRH Prince Sultan bin Mohammed of Saudi Arabia, top racehorse trainers such as Aidan O’Brien of Ireland and leading show-jumpers have benefited from Equine Spa therapy.
Pig spa
In Rushland, Pennsylvania, the Ross Mill Farm Inc. Piggy Resort and Spa offers a wide range of accommodations and services for the discerning pet pig. The boarding facility includes the famous Lula’s Piggy Spa where each pig is given special care for general health and disposition.
A pampered pig can have piggy mani, pedi sessions, body massages and even a swine serenader.
Dog spa
The Pawton Resort and Spa is dedicated to providing the best health and wellbeing care for dogs. It boasts of a 1:1 staff ratio to dogs and has branches across North America and Europe.
Dogs sleep in rooms, not cages, on the signature PawtonBed complete with duvet and goose down pillows will ensure a restful night’s sleep. All rooms include LCD TV tuned to pet-friendly channels, large windows and fresh flowing water.
Some of these spas, like the ones listed above, are clearly thinking outside the box. At least, it goes to show there’s something out there for everyone.
