Futuristic fusion spa classically modern - Combining motivated and well-trained staff with a luxurious contemporary setting and amazing views, the Renaissance Shanghai Yuyuan Hotel seamlessly blends Eastern and Western flavors, writes Yang Di.
Quan Spa at the Renaissance Shanghai Yuyuan Hotel is an impressive inner city hotel spa located on Henan Road S., close to Yuyuan Garden, a classical garden in downtown Shanghai with a history of more than 400 years.
The hotel spa forms part of a Wellness Zone with a gymnasium, infinity edge pool, juice bar, indoor spa garden and relaxation areas spread out over the top two floors of the hotel with breathtaking views across the city skyline.
The first impression of Quan is urban, hip and futuristic which fit seamlessly into the vibrant and dynamic downtown district.
It is designed by award winning prominent Czech architect Borek Sipek, renowned for his individual, unusual, colorful and rich designs.
Being honored as one of the three most distinguished designers of Europe, Sipek prides his work as the "fusion" design as he favors the idea of blending things together in an imaginative manner, breaking all rules and conventional methods.
The spa presents a distinctly contemporary ambience and has 10 treatment rooms with a mix of in-room hot tubs and Vichy Showers, single and dual occupancy rooms and a luxury foot lounge.
"Quan" is the name of the Marriott International's fully owned spa group which was established in August 2004 with the opening of its first spa at the Sanya Marriott Resort on Hainan Island in China.
January 2006 saw two additional spas open at the JW Marriott Hotel, Mumbai and the Renaissance Resort on Koh Samui in Thailand.
This year sees the opening of two more spas at the JW Marriott Hotel in Beijing and here at the Shanghai Yuyuan Renaissance Hotel.
