Spa Spy: Carlise Bay, Antigua

Spa Spy: Carlise Bay, Antigua
he spa Not so much a spa, more treatments in the heart of paradise. Carlisle Bay nestles on the south-western side of Antigua. It is built on the edge of a Caribbean beach with white sands, azure seas and palms. The treatment centre has a sauna, plunge pool and excellent gym. It offers a range of beauty treatments and massages for hotel guests.
Spa Spy’s symptoms Spy is approaching her 60th birthday. Despite being the same size she has always been, she feels lumpy, bumpy and miserable.
The prescription The spa manager listens closely to Spy’s woes. He suggests regular yoga with particular attention to the breathing (60 min, $25), daily swims in the sea, a Floral Massage Ritual to help her skin feel softer and improve circulation (90 min, $210) and a La Alternativa Smooth facial, designed for more mature skin to improve expression lines and wrinkles (80 min, $198). Spy also agrees to stick to the hotel’s Light & Healthy menu.
The procedure Spy starts each day with a yoga session. During the Floral Massage Ritual, a mixture of jasmine blossom and citrus blossom oils are blended to create a relaxing scent. This “scent-sual” experience is inspired by traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic principles. Warm floral sachets are used to apply the oil. These help aid circulation and soften the skin. Spy swims in the ocean every day and has her facial using the Inhibit Collection by Natura Bisse. Spy tries a combination of products that includes Liposiller complex, said to fill existing lines.
The verdict Spy’s face does look less wrinkly. Her skin is smoother but, most important, she just feels better. With the combination of sun, sea and treatments, her mood has lifted and she feels ready to face her next decade.
The medical opinion “The combination of rest, yoga and massage is an exhilarating tonic, so no wonder Spy feels so much better,” says Dr James LeFanu. “The sea is perhaps a bit cold at this time of year for swimming, but there is no reason why Spy should not carry on with the yoga and massage now she is home.”
The feelgood factor Carlisle Bay is wonderful. On arrival, there is no check-in. Instead, Spy was given a glass of watermelon juice with ginger and mint before being escorted to her room. There are two excellent restaurants and watersports including snorkelling by the beautiful coral reefs. Spy found the experience hugely uplifting and oh so wants to go back.
